DANVILLE, Ala. (Sept. 20, 2018) — Hunter Safety System, the leader in treestand safety equipment, awarded the winners of the 2018 Treestand Safety Writing Contest at the annual Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) conference on Sept. 11, in Bismarck, ND. The contest, which was open to submissions published or aired between June 2017 and Sept. 1, was designed to increase awareness of treestand safety.
Ken Perotte was the first-place winner and recipient of a check for $500 for his article “Treestand: Favored Tool Is Also Among the Most Dangerous.” Jason Houser’s article “Learning the Hard Way” took second place and earned him $250. Third place and $100 prize money went to Larry Whitely for his piece titled “This Could Be Your Last Deer Season.” The checks were presented by Karen Lutto, HSS public relations representative, at the Tuesday night AGLOW awards dinner.
The HSS Treestand Safety Writing Contest was open to all active AGLOW media members. Submissions were for articles and broadcast shows that were published or aired during the contest timeframe. Mention of specific product brands was neither encouraged or discouraged and had no impact on judging.
“We are very excited about the response that we had with this contest,” said Jay Everett, HSS marketing manager. “Each year, there are thousands of hunters that are injured in treestand accidents—all of which can be avoided. We hope that these articles will help educate the readers and listeners and reduce the numbers of accidents.”
Hunter Safety System also announced today that it will once again sponsor this contest for AGLOW media members. The contest will begin Oct. 1 and run through Sept. 1, 2019. All submissions should be sent to Karen Lutto at [email protected] by midnight on Aug. 31, 2019.
For additional information or questions on the 2019 contest, please contact Karen Lutto at (830) 755-4308 or email [email protected].
