HSS Continues to Challenge SEOPA & AGLOW Media Members to Help Eradicate Treestand Hunting Accidents

DANVILLE, Ala. (April 30, 2019) — For the second year, Hunter Safety System, the industry leader in treestand safety, is asking active members of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) and the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) to raise awareness about the importance of proper treestand safety through their professional media outlets. HSS will once again award the top-three published or aired treestand-safety stories.

Each year, thousands of hunters are injured in treestand accidents. In fact, according to the Treestand Safety Awareness Foundation (TSSA), there are about 4,000 emergency room visits per year due to treestand falls. While the number of fatalities from treestand accidents continues to decline, the ultimate goal of Hunter Safety System and other members of TSSA is zero.

This contest is open to any published articles in 2019 and will run through Dec. 31, 2019. Prizes will be $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $100 for third place. All published/aired treestand safety stories need to be submitted to Karen Lutto at [email protected] by midnight Jan. 31, 2020. Winners will be notified by email in February 2020.

“There is no better way to educate people about treestand safety than to partner with our media members,” said Jay Everett, marketing manager. “Last year we had the lowest number of actual media reported fatalities and the lowest three-year average of accidents resulting in an injury in recorded history.

“We need to keep this trend going. With the help of local, state and national media educating hunters about treestand safety and the proper use of the right equipment, the number of accidents and fatalities will continue to decline and ultimately reach our goal of zero.”

Any active SEOPA and/or AGLOW media member is welcome to submit their recently published/aired pieces of work. Mention of specific product brands is not required and will have no impact on judging. Judges will not be directly affiliated with HSS, AGLOW or SEOPA. For additional information or questions, please feel free to contact Karen Lutto at (830) 755-4308 or email [email protected].
