Weatherby H2O Youth Camp Great Success

SAN ANTONIO (August 19, 2019)

Trinity Oaks, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on the premise that active participation in the outdoors is a powerful, healing, and fundamentally life-changing experience, recently hosted a free one-day adventure camp for all kids between the ages of 9 to 15. Nearly hitting the capacity of 300, the camp was filled with more than 200 new participants to the camp. With six stations—rifle, shotgun, archery, ATV, survival skills and a hunter’s education mini course—the campers had a full day of activities.

“For many of these kids, a day at the Weatherby H2O Youth Camp is more than just fun and games,” said David Lewis, Trinity Oaks youth director. “It is a chance to connect with kids from different backgrounds, learn outdoor skills and build self-confidence. For many of the kids, it was their first time handling a firearm or shooting a bow.

“Nearly all the parents of the kids who participate in this program and our other youth programs have reported seeing lasting changes in their children. It is because of our supporters like the Weatherby Foundation for its generous sponsorship of all of the Trinity Oaks youth programs, Bexar County Shooting Range for use of their facility, Willie’s Grill & Icehouse for catering food, Alamo Cycle Plex for bringing ATVs, our guest speakers Kathleen Stuman, TPWD Game Warden Matt Molak and Chris the “Turkey Man,” as well as the many in-kind gifts, we are able to provide these special youth programs to our area children.”

Thanks to the many sponsors and volunteers, there will be another Weatherby H2O Youth Camp in College station later this year and one has been added to the schedule in Fort Hood in 2020. Check the Trinity Oaks website at www.trinityoaks.org for details. In addition to the H2O Youth Camps, Trinity Oaks also hosts between 15-20 youth hunts at Texas ranches each year. Currently, there are more than 250 kids on the waiting list, and the list keeps on growing. For information on the hunts and how to apply, visit the website.

About Trinity Oaks
In 2007, San Antonio native Tom Snyder founded Trinity Oaks, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on the premise that active participation in the outdoors is a powerful, healing, and fundamentally life-changing experience. The organization’s mission is to use hunting, fishing and outdoor activities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of underprivileged kids, terminally ill children and combat veterans. Each year, Trinity Oaks offers at least 50 events at no expense to those who can benefit from once-in-a-lifetime hunting or fishing experiences.
